摘要
In the last few decades there is a sea change in the composition of rural - urban population of India. According to census 2011 about 69 per cent of the population lives in rural areas. The family migration generally affects more the sociocultural characteristic of the household, while the adult males migratory movement has a greater effect on future population changes or fertility preferences. Yadava et al. (1990), in his study revealed that the fertility in all the age-groups of migrants was lower in comparison to non-migrants and fertility differentials between migrants and non-migrants were also not uniform in different socio-economic groups of the rural society. Hence, it is necessary to study the relationship between migration and fertility issue in the context of changing demographic scenario. In the present work a comparative study in Tikamgarh district has been made to study the impact of migration on fertility measures such as MACB and TFR of migrated and non-migrated couples. After statistical analysis the mean age at childbearing and total fertility rates of migrated and non-migrated couples was found to be 27.34, 3.30 and 26.30, 4.36 respectively. The fertility rates are found high in both migrant as well as nonmigrant and the reason of this high fertility was found the lack of education, desire of a male child and lack of urbanization in the region.
