摘要
An experiment was conducted in which direct-care staff monitored potential side effects of medications taken by people with developmental disabilities. The effect of a computerized medication monitoring system on reports of medication side effects was evaluated. Results indicated that the total number of side effects reported by direct-care staff was generally higher when using the computerized medication monitoring system than what was reported on the agency's current system. These results suggest that using a computerized medication monitoring system may be a practical method for measuring side effects of psychotropic medication with people with developmental disabilities. Furthermore, this study's results indicate that providing direct-care staff with specific prompts for adverse side effects increases the likelihood that staff will provide a comprehensive report of all potential side effects experienced by consumers.
