Pressure-induced metallization and structural transition of rhombohedral Se

摘要
Powder X-ray diffraction experiments and electrical resistance measurements were performed at pressures up to 22 GPa for rhombohedral Se consisting of cyclic Se-6 molecules. Pressure-induced metallization was observed at a pressure around 16 GPa, accompanied by a structural phase transition. The critical pressure of metallization for rhombohedral Se is higher than that for alpha-monoclinic Se (12 GPa) and lower than that for trigonal Se (23 GPa). (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
