A simplified ZND calculation for the one-dimensional detonation (infinite diameter) of heterogeneous explosives is proposed. The effects of thermal relaxation within the two-phase products is incorporated into a source term in the chemical rate law, The explosive is then approximated as a homogeneous mixture of two phases. The source term is based on the rate of heat transfer fi om the liquid explosive to the inert heterogeneities. The effect of the properties of the heterogeneities (size, heat capacity, density) on this additional term is discussed.
