A differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry (DPCSV) has been established for the determination of cefotaxime(CTX) on silver microdisk electrode. The degradation product of CTX was carried out in 0.1 mol/L NaOH at 100 degreesC for 20 min. The method is based on the electrochemical behavior of the degradation product of CTX containing thiohydroxy group( - SH), which can combine with Ag+ to form an insoluble thiolate. In pH 4.5 NaAc-HAc medium a sensitive reduction peak of the degradation product of CTX was obtained at silver microdisk electrode with cyclic voltammetry. The reduction peak currents are proportional to the concentration of CTX in the range of 1.0 x 10(-7) similar to 1.0 x 10(-5) mol/L by DPCSV. This method has been successfully applied to the determination of CTX in simulant sample.
