摘要：

Retained placenta is one of the most common complications occurring in the post-partum period and it may seriously affect subsequent fertility in the affected cows. Despite extensive research, treatment of retained placenta has not changed much in many years. This paper presents possible methods of preventing retained placenta by supplementing the animals with minerals and vitamins in the periparturient period. It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of manually removing the placenta as well as its treatment without manual removal and the administration of antibiotics, oxytocin, PGF2alpha, beta2-antagonists and estrogens. It also describes treatments using collagenase infusion into the umbilical arteries.
