摘要
Unprecedented demographic changes are occurring in our society, which has resulted in a higher than ever proportion of elderly adults in our midst. Some significant percentage of these elderly individuals have serious psychiatric disorders. The mental health system is generally ill-prepared to meet the special need of older persons. A literature review was conducted to identify some of the significant barriers to providing adequate treatment and care. The author suggests possible ways to begin overcoming these barriers.
