摘要
In this introductory chapter we discuss how a language pedagogy inspired by Cognitive Linguistics (CL) can benefit from an alliance with current Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research. Conversely, we show how insights from CL can usefully be incorporated into sequences of task-based learning, so as to improve learners' uptake of second-language (L2) elements of various kinds (including sounds, words, phrases and constructions). We argue that CL can help course designers, materials writers and teachers make informed choices about what to teach as well as how to teach it. We give an outline of the contents of the book and explain the contribution each of the chapters makes with a view to fostering language teaching efficiency.
