摘要
The gamma strength function (GSF) as well as total level densities (LDs) in Pb-208 and Mo-96 were extracted from high-resolution forward angle inelastic proton scattering data taken at RCNP, Osaka, Japan, and compared to experimental results obtained with the Oslo method in order to test the validity of the Brink-Axel (BA) hypothesis in the energy region of the pygmy dipole resonance. The case of Pb-208 is inconclusive because of strong fluctuations of the GSF due to the small level density in a doubly closed-shell nucleus. In Mo-96 the data are consistent with the BA hypothesis. The good agreement of LDs provides an independent confirmation of the approach underlying the decomposition of GSF and LDs in Oslo-type experiments.
