Dielectric properties of sol-gel derived PZT(40/60)/PZT(60/40) heterolayered thin films

Ferroelectric PZT(40/60)/PZT(60/40) heterolayered thin films were fabricated by spin-coating method on the Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate alternately using PZT(40/60) and PZT(60/40) alkoxide solutions. The coating and heating procedure was repeated six times to form PZT heterolayered films. All PZT heterolayered films showed dense and homogeneous structure without the presence of rosette structure. The relative dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the PZT-6 film were about 1200 and 3%, respectively. Increasing the number of coatings, remnant polarization increased, the coercive field decreased and the values were 30.79 mu C/cm(2) and 73.9 kV/cm, respectively. Leakage current density of the PZT-6 heterolayered film was 8 x 10(-9) A/cm(2) at 5 V. And the PZT-6 heterolayered film showed fairly good fatigue characteristics after application of 10(8) switching cycles. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
