Synthesis of MgAl2O4 whiskers by an oxidation-reduction reaction

摘要
Magnesium aluminate whiskers were synthesized by an oxidation-reduction reaction between MgO, C, and Al in a CO and CO2 atmosphere. The oxygen partial pressure suitable for MgAl2O4 whisker growth ranged from 10(-12.1) to 10(-11.5) MPa. The average whisker diameter and length formed at 1500 degrees C for 8 h were similar to 3.1 mu m and similar to 4 mm, respectively. The whiskers grew in the [111] direction.
