Rules for good use of a topical cream for erectile dysfunction management

Introduction. - Alprostadil cream is a new topical agent for treatment of erectile dysfunction. Several clinical trials have established the efficacy of this product. Our aim was to summarize the recommendations for the best use of this product in clinical practice. Methods. - A literature review was conducted. Results. - Alprostadil cream use has been approved in France and is reimbursed in several indications. The most important aspects of the utilization of the product are : the respect of the rules for correct application, need for sexual stimulation, respect of the time to onset of action, repetition of the use in the initial treatment phase. Conclusion. - The basic rules for the use of alprostadil cream (application of the cream, sexual stimulation, time to onset of action, repeated use) should be respected. (C) 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS.
