摘要
Preeclampsia is characterized by sustained hypertension and proteinuria, detected after the 20th gestational week. Hypertension results from inadequate placental vessel remodeling by several proteins, including matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), while proteinuria is mainly related to the reduced bioavailability of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). MMP and VEGF are activated by plasmin. Conditions characterized by a hypofibrinolytic status, such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle, infections, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 polymorphism and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome are at a high risk for preeclampsia.
