摘要
Effects of relativistic principles on global positioning system (GPS) is discussed. GPS navigation works on a simple application of the second postulate of special relativity. Effects such as second-order Doppler shift and gravitational blueshift of an orbiting atomic clock can cause navigational errors of more than 11 km, quickly rendering the system useless. Other effects include the Saganc effect, differences between coordinate distances and relativistically invariant distances and the Shapiro time delay.
