Based on the application of the exact solution for the plane wave diffraction by a rectangular hole, the transmission property of a rectangular aperture less than the half-wavelength is investigated by calculating the transmitted power for various aperture sizes and screen's thicknesses, and we derive a useful formula for predicting the transmitted power by fitting lines to the asymptotes of the plots of the transmission coefficients. We also visualize the power flow near the aperture by means of the 2D vector plot and the behavior of the diffracted wave is examined. The results for various screen's thicknesses and aperture sizes provide some understanding of the diffraction phenomena for the strong power transmission.
