center dot Progressive resident autonomy has undergone significant modification in an era of increased attending oversight, work hour restrictions, patient safety considerations, and increased medico-legal risk.center dot Traditional methods of surgical training require modification to allow for the development of both technical and nontechnical competencies.center dot Innovation in simulation, surgical curricula, assessment methods, and improved technical and di-dactic educational models are necessary for the future development of competent graduate sur-geons and excellent patient outcomes.
