摘要
Introduction. - More and more people with cancer are living at home. Family caregivers are important players in the care of the ill person. As such, they are confronted with the severe cancer pain of their loved one. Pain is one of the most frequent symptoms in cancerology, often insufficiently relieved. The objective of this study was to gain a better understanding of the perception that family caregivers have of their role in the home, particularly with regard to cancer-related pain and its treatment. Methodology. - A qualitative study was conducted by means of semi-directed interviews with family caregivers of patients with cancer in the specific or symptomatic palliative phase and presenting pain requiring the administration of opioids. The themes explored were communication, anticipation, coordination, support and adaptation. Results. - 12 interviews were conducted. Most of the family caregivers said that they make themselves available for the patient's comfort, monitoring of symptoms and opioid use. The latter are a source of many questions. In addition, caregivers feel responsible for doing everything and organizing themselves to deal with pain. Finally, they consider themselves to be in the best position to support the patient on a daily basis, both in practical and socio-emotional aspects. Healthcare professionals, especially private nurses, are important elements on which they can rely. Discussion. - The challenge for family caregivers is to reinforce their role in relieving the patient's pain at home. Communicating, coordinating the various players and participating in decision-making are the means to achieve this, but these functions vary over time. A balance must be found in the burden placed on them. This invites professionals to be attentive to their needs by offering flexible assistance adapted to each situation.
