摘要
On the basis of the theoretical model introduced in earlier works that allows to obtain a precise equation for the work function, the authors analyze the significance of the dipole layer potential in the context of work function of metals. The numerical calculations performed for a significant group of metals show the percentage share in the value of the work function for the chemical potential and potential of the dipole layer. It was also analyzed how it changes with the change in temperature for selected metals. As could be expected, changes in temperature practically do not cause changes in the chemical potential, and the associated change in the work function result only from the destruction of the dipole layer caused by the high temperature. Analysis carried out confirm how important is the influence of the metal surface and the associated dipole layer on the value of the work function.
