摘要
Ovarian reserve and follicular maturation are crucial for female fertility. Menopause as the end of the reproductive window generally occurs between the ages of 50 and 52. Approximately 1% of women suffer from a permanent or partly reversible cessation of ovarian function, which is termed premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) or premature ovarian failure (POF) syndrome, before the age of 40 years. The reasons are multifactorial and can be genetic, iatrogenic, autoimmune and infectious. For competent and realistic care and counseling, precise knowledge of causes, diagnostic steps and risks are necessary.
