Phase diagrams of La2CuO4- CuO in air and in flowing oxygen are established by differential thermal analysis (DTA), in which the liquidus line for the crystal growth of La2CuO4 is determined by the improved thermogravimetric analysis (ITGA). Referring to the phase diagram, suitable temperature program and starting composition are applied to the crystal growth. As a result, single crystals with size up to 10x8x6 mm(3) have been obtained by spontaneous nucleation. After oxygenation at 1 kbar oxygen pressure at 800 degrees C, the crystal with elongated C-parameter becomes superconducting with the main transition temperature of 20 K.
