Pre- and postoperative efficacy results are reported for the first 39 children with twelve months of CLARION experience in the United States. A within-subjects repeated measures design was used to compare preoperative performance with hearing aids to postoperative performance with CLARION. The results revealed significant improvement on ail outcome measures. Significant differences were observed in the scores of the younger and older children in the study presumably due to developmental effects rather than to differences in device benefit.
