Swellable surface-attached polymer microlenses with tunable focal length

Polymer microlenses are swelled under exposure to solvents as a means of adjusting the focal length. A simple needle printer is used for the fabrication of the microlenses on chemically micropatterned surfaces. These surface-attached microlenses can then be swollen (and hence their focal length altered; see figure) when exposed to solvent vapor; they remain unaged after multiple swelling-drying cycles.
