Growth of Bi-2212 single crystals and x-ray and cathodoluminescence characterization of impurity phases

A temperature section of the system BiO1.5:SrO:CaO:CuO 33:25:14:28 has been studied using a turnable crucible technique. The field of single-phase crystallization of Bi-2212 has been established. The obtained results suggest that, together with the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 plus liquid equilibrium there exist the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 plus Sr7Ca7Cu24O40 plus liquid and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 plus Sr7Ca7Cu24O40 plus CuO plus liquid equilibria. The cathodoluminescence method has been shown to be an effective means to diagnose the 81-2212 crystal surface. The dependence on oxygen pressure of the superconducting transition temperature T-c of Bi-2212 crystals during their thermal treatment within the oxygen pressure range 0.25-200 atm has been determined.
