摘要
Source materials of boron in salt lakes of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were mainly derived from anatectic magma of the Cenozoic lower crust and geothermal water and formed borate deposits in lowstand lakes under terminal late Pleistocene-Holocene cold-semi-dry-cold conditions. Different salt lake hydrochemical types have different boron specializations. The borate minerals are dominated by sodium borate with subordinate sodium-calcium borate (ulexite) for carbonate-type salt lakes and by magnesium borate with subordinate calcium-magnesium borate and sodium-calcium borate for sulfate-type salt lakes. Under supergene conditions, borates are liable to secondary mineralization and carbonation. There are three types of magnesium borate deposits on the plateau: (1) pinnoite-ulexite deposits, (2) inderite-kurnakovite deposits, and (3) pinnoite-kurnakovite deposits. All of them have industrial value, and especially the second and third types can also be directly used as glass fiber material. These magnesium borate deposits have been mined substantially.
