摘要
Increasing rate of plastic waste generation all over the world is a great environmental concern due to the non-biodegradability nature of this material. Therefore numerous researches and industries are focusing on how to use these petrochemical-based wastes. Due to their high calorific value, they are considerable sources for energy recovery. Different energy recovery technologies such as pyrolysis, incineration, gasification, etc. can be applied to manage plastic wastes properly. This leads to use of renewable resources instead of fossil fuels and consequently decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. In this short report it is demonstrated that the amount of plastic waste comprises a sizable ratio in the waste stream of Tehran, the capital city of Iran. This can prove that the potential of resource recovery exists and should be promoted in this city.
