The technological changes that have taken place in recent decades have opened up the possibility of new forms of working, which are having undeniable consequences in terms of both workplace and working time. Both concepts are becoming much more flexible given that real-time connectivity is now possible at all times. If not abused, these technological opportunities could offer the perfect channel to enable us to strike a better balance between personal, professional and family life. Based on this premise, in this paper we assess the impact of the digitalization of work on the family-work balance of public employees. To this end, in addition to the new life-work balance measures set out in the Public Employees' Statute (EBEP), we also address the possibility of introducing occasional, responsible teleworking as a key tool for achieving a genuine balance between private and professional life. The right to digitally disconnect from work will also be analyzed as a guarantee of effective teleworking and in general as a means of improving the familywork balance given that the new way of organizing work time must involve successfully fulfilling all responsibilities.
