摘要
The concrete filled Carbon Shell System (CSS) concept uses modular prefabricated filament-wound carbon/epoxy thin shells filled on-site with concrete as bridge girders. The shell serves the dual function of reinforcement and stay-in-place formwork for the concrete core. This paper describes details of full-scale characterization tests of the CSS concept conducted at both the component and system levels. It also reports construction issues and load tests on a newly constructed prototype bridge using this bridge system. Finally, the paper presents current research being performed in the continued development of such a system.
