Providing QoS in fast and hierarchical mobile IPv6 networks

Fast Handover for Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 protocol (F-HMIPv6) reduces handover latency and packet loss significantly, which are always intolerant in the basic Mobile IPv6 protocol (MIPv6). How to provide QoS guarantee for the real-time and multimedia applications under this newly defined architecture remains an open issue. We have proposed an advance reservation mechanism for F-HMIPv6. However, the paper mainly considered intra-domain handover of the mobile node. In this paper we propose a QoS provisioning scheme for the case that the mobile performs inter-domain handover. We make use of a special router, called "Crossover Router", to reduce reservation hops and signaling delays when the mobile intends to set up a new RSVP path from the new domain. Simulation results show that the proposal significantly reduces the latency of RSVP renegotiation.
