Treatment of recycle paper mill wastewater in moving bed biofilm reactors

摘要：
A new moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) has been developed where the biomass grows on plastic carrier elements that move about freely with the water in the reactor. A pilot test on recycle paper mill wastewater was conducted for design of a full scale system. A two stage bioreactor system was used and results showed reduction of Soluble BOD averaged 93% with just 3 hours of hydraulic retention time. The average effluent Soluble BOD concentration was 7.83 mg/L. These results are presented and discussed. along with full scale design data and results from the full scale treatment system.
