This article reviews the important differences between children and adults suffering brain injury following cardiac arrest. The differences in etiology, pathophysiology, neuronal vulnerability, and repair in the context of the developing brain are reviewed. The available clinical data are reviewed, and selected treatment priorities are declared. The article includes a discussion of knowledge gaps and future directions.
