摘要
2 domains of competence which occupy a central position in child development are intelligence and language. Deficits in these domains either on their own or especially in combination can significantly influence development and is reflected in various impairments. This article discusses the connection between intelligence and language in children with primary and secondary language impairments. The linguistic performances of 5- to 8-year-old children with cognitive abilities below average (n=25) are compared to an inconspicuously developed group (n=25). The results confirm language problems of mentally retarded children in different areas of language. The implications for diagnosis will be discussed.
