CAD/CAM METHODS IN THE CUSTOMIZATION OF MEDICAL IMPLANTS

The paper presents the case study of a patient with a severe skeleton defect at the mandible. The patient was taken in a pre-surgery planning procedure consisting of computer tomography scanning, 3D reconstruction with special software, design of the missing hone fragment with CAD software, and rapid prototyping (RP) of the part in Polyethylene layers. Based on the prototype, the surgeon prepared the auto implant for the patient in a separate intervention and implanted it in the mandible. The fixation of the implant during the osteosynthezis time was made with a special blade and screws inserted in the hone. For particular situations, the fixation blade was analyzed using Finite Element Analysis method (FEA).
