Analysis of the home advantage and their variations by team level in the main european football leagues

This study aims to identify the presence of the advantage of acting as principal in different leagues in Europe, analyzing the impacts present in the teams in each level within the competitions. For its accomplishment were collected the results of the matches, field command of the participating teams and the final classifications of the championships during 9 seasons in 5 leagues. In order to determine the advantage of being a client, the percentage of points obtained using a favorable field command and the total number of points obtained was used, which is identified if the result is greater than 50%. For the comparison between the different levels, the chi-square test was applied. As a result found, the presence of the advantage in all the competitions is observed, being found indices between 58.4% and 61%. Among the analyzes comparing the categories, significant statistical differences were observed in Category 1 in all competitions and in Category 5 in 4 of them, with the exception of the German Championship. Based on the results, it is concluded that there is an advantage in being the principal in the main European leagues, with the drop being the positive indicator for the improvement of the result obtained in the competitions.
