Organocatalytic oxidation. Asymmetric epoxidation of olefins catalyzed by chiral ketones and iminium salts

A review will be given regarding the progress of epoxidation of various types of olefins, especially on the unfunctionalized trans- and trisubstituted olefins. Specific topics that have been discussed include: the early ketones; the C2-symmetric binaphthyl-based and related ketones; ammonium ketones; the bicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-ones and related ketones; the carbohydrate-based and related ketones; the carbocyclic ketones; the ketones with an attached chiral moiety; the chiral cyclic iminium salts; and finally, the chiral acyclic iminium salts.
