摘要
Objective. - The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ES dry extract on cardiorespiratory power and capacity of physically active Brazilian young men. Equipment and methods. - A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted with 15 Brazilian young men, aged 18-30 years. The placebo (PG) and supplemented group (SG) took placebo or 800 mg of ES dry extract/day, for 30 days. Food intake and anthropometric evaluation and the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) were performed at baseline and after 30 days of supplementation. Results. - There was no difference in oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), respiratory exchange ratio (RER), heart rate (HR), test time (TT), load (L), metabolic equivalents (METs) and subjective perception of effort (SEP) when reaching VO2max, anaerobic threshold (AT) and respiratory compensation point (RCP) between PG and SG (P >= 0.05). Also, when comparing deltas of VO2, VCO2, HR and TT in VO2max, AT and RCP, no difference was found between PG and SG (P >= 0.05). The supplementation of 800 mg ES dry extract for 30 days did not influence cardiorespiratory fitness of physically active Brazilian young men. (c) 2022 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
