Essential oil of the aerial parts of Hertia intermedia (Boiss.) O. Kuntze, growing wild in Iran, was extracted using hydrodistillation method and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Forty-one compounds were identified in the oil of the plant, representing 98.4 % of the total oil. The main constituents were beta-pinene (32.8 %), alpha-pinene (22.7 %), alpha-thujene (10.9 %), and beta-phellandrene (9.6 %), followed by germacrene D (4.6 %). The oil of H. intermedia was characterized by a high content of monoterpenes (89.9 %), whereas sesquiterpenes and nonterpenoids contained only 8.0 % and 0.5 % of the total oil, respectively.
