(Chemical Equation Presented) Mission accomplished. The fungal metabolite diversonol has been synthesized for the first time. A key step in the total synthesis was the domino oxa-Michael-aldol condensation of salicylic aldehyde 1 and 4-hydroxycyclohexenone (2) that afforded the tricyclic scaffold of the target compound. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
