Application of Mawangdui Lacquer Moire in New Chinese Furniture Design

The decorative patterns on the Mawangdui lacquer are the typical representatives of the traditional decorative patterns, which have unique decorative implication and cultural connotation and can provide abundant materials for modern design. It used the Mawangdui lacquer Moire as the research object to parse out new decorative elements through the methods of direct reference, abstraction, decomposition and reorganization, and exaggeration and deformation, etc. And it used examples to show the methods and techniques of applying the Mawangdui lacquer Moire to design new Chinese-style furniture. This study shows that Moire applied in new Chinese-style furniture has current and prospective applicability, which can provide theoretical guidance for other traditional patterns applied in modern design and contribute to the inheriting and innovating traditional decorative culture.
