摘要
Based on informed consent, patients with it potentially-resectable (T2T3) squamous cell cancer of the esophagus chose either surgery or definitive chemoradiation. The surgical procedure was transthoracic esophagectomy with lymphadenectomy. Definitive chemoradilation was consisted of 60Gy radiation with two cycles of concurrent chemotherapy using CDDP and 5FU. From 2003 to 2007, 1 17 patients prospectively entered this trial in Kurume University Hospital. Ninty-three patients chose surgery, while 24 patients chose chemoradation. The three-year survival rate wits 56% for the surgery group, Mid 39% for the chemoradiation group, with no significant difference. None received salvage esophagectomy. Chemoradiation may be an effective standard treatment for potentially-resectable squamous cell cancer of the esophagus.
