Nonlinear dielectric studies in supercooling 4-(2-methylbutyl)-4′-cyanobiphenyl (5*CB)

Results are presented of nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) in the isotropic phase of 4-(2-methylbutyl)-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5*CB) for three frequencies of a measuring electric field. The critical-like properties of nonlinear changes in dielectric permittivity induced by a strong electric field were found: epsilon(NDE) = A(NDE)/(T - T+)(gamma) With A(NDE) = 135.5 x 10(-6) (m(2) V-2 K-1), gamma = 1 and T+ = 12.02 degrees C. The latter may be treated as a temperature of hypothetical continuous phase transition.
