摘要
Materials are basic to every manufacturing process; the smarter they get, the better will be the product. The technology of smart materials has been adopted for the planning of sustainable development of smart cities and therefore it is the necessity of nation to utilize the most recent developments and innovations to build smart cities. Smart materials belong to a type of reactive materials which can change their characteristics in response to some change in external environmental conditions. This paper represents the applications of smart materials and structures for the development of smart cities. This paper also focuses on future challenges from the perspective of emerging trends in material sciences for development of smart cities. This paper also highlights the different types of smart materials and their applications like Piezoelectric materials, Shape memory alloys(SMA), Magnetostrictive materials, Electro-rheological materials, Magneto-rheological fluids, electro- and magneto theological fluids, Thermoresponsive and Electrochromic material.
