Error measures for the finite strip vibration analysis method

The finite strip method is a useful tool for the determination of the buckling load factor and natural frequency for a given cross-section of a member. This method has the advantage of producing accurate results for a relatively coarse mesh when compared with the finite element method. This paper demonstrates a procedure to improve the natural frequency estimation and use it to give an accurate prediction for the error of the finite strip solution. (C) 1997 Academic Press Limited
