摘要
The reliability of ceramic filter supports used in nanofiltration has motivated experimental and analytical investigations. Laboratory experimentation relying on the diametral compression (Brazilian) test is employed for the characterization of the strength properties of the structural components including damage preceding rupture. On this basis also a life-time concept is proposed. The fracturing processes in the material that result to rupture are studied on the microscale by a numerical simulation model. The significance of various structural parameters with respect to rupture is explored. Experimental findings and finite element stress analysis are combined for an estimation of the potential of rupture within ceramic filter supports under operation conditions.
