摘要：
The usefulness of X-rays in modern medical imaging has circumstantially led to X-ray contrast media discoveries. Barium sulfate and water-soluble iodinated contrast agents are the two X-ray agents currently being applied for human use. Current research efforts are discovering the use of electrodense heavy metal complexes as X-ray contrast agents. These metals include Ag, Bi, Cs, Th, Sn, Zr, Ta, W, and rare earth elements. These metals must be water-soluble, stable at physiological pH, safe, and must be excreted by the body completely.
