Due to the effective energy performance, water-cooled condensers have been applied to the air-conditioning systems in many areas. However, most of the air-conditioning systems existing in Hone, Kong employed the use of air-cooled condensers. In order to improve the energy efficiency and effectiveness of those existing air-cooled condensers, a new combination of sprinkler-system operated with the existing air-cooled chiller comes forth. It applies the principle of evaporative cooling to the existing conventional air-cooled chillers by spraying fresh water. This paper aims to test and analyze the feasibility and energy performance of the new combination. Calculations show that the new combination achieved up to 50% increase in the coefficient of performance (COP) of air-cooled chillers in this tropical region of Hong Kong, and the annual energy saving is obvious.
