Facile one-pot green synthesis of tetrahydrobiphenylene-1,3-dicarbonitriles in aqueous media under ultrasound irradiation

摘要
An efficient and rapid procedure for the synthesis of 16 novel tetrahydrobiphenylene-1,3-dicarbonitrile derivatives (4a-p) is described, employing the reaction of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile and 3-methyl-cyclohexanone or 2-methyl-cyclohexanone at room temperature in aqueous NaOH under ultrasonic irradiation, with excellent yields. The other attractive features of this protocol over conventional methods are the green principles, operational simplicity, easy handling, time-reducing, mild reaction conditions and no by-product production.
