Routine coagulation assays are performed on plateletpoor plasma (PPP) after centrifugation of the specimen. Current international guidelines recommend the centrifugation speed and duration but do not mention the use of end-centrifugation brake [1]. On the one hand, brakeinduced deceleration may promote remixing plasma and cellular components [2, 3]. This may flaw hemostasis measurements [4]. On the other hand, the absence of brake implies protracted centrifugation and turnaround time (TAT). This may harm patients with active bleeding and/or those requiring an urgent invasive procedure. This prospective study aimed at assessing the impact of the centrifuge brake on the resuspension of platelets in plasma and on the reliability of eight coagulation assays. © 2020 De Gruyter.
