Non-linear and non-exponential volume relaxation at the orientational 'glass' transition in solid C-60

摘要
The orientational 'glass' transition in solid C-60 has been investigated in detail by high-resolution capacitance dilatometry. Thermal expansivity data taken for a variety of heating (cooling) rates are fit using the widely applied phenomenological Tool-Narayanaswamy (TN) model for structural relaxation. This analysis shows that the relaxation is both slightly non-exponential (beta = 0.90 +/- 0.02) and non-linear (x = 1.08 +/- 0.02). This 'simple' system, thus, exhibits a qualitatively similar degree of complexity as conventional glass formers.
