摘要
The current study was aimed to assess the effect of natural gums (guar gum and xanthan gum) and synthetic polymer (eudragit L-100) on drug release from tablet formulations, prepared by wet granulation technique. Metoprolol tartrate was used as model drug. The evaluation of formulations revealed that increase in polymer concentration showed decrease in release rate of drug. In addition, Korsmeyer-Peppas model showed that drug release from all formulations occurred via diffusion mechanism. Although, all the polymers showed successful controlled release of drug, formulations containing eudragit L-100 alone (EF6 containing E30% released 61% drug in 12 h) or in combination (EXF22 containing E30: X10 released 62% in 12 h) produced best controlled release of drug as compared to those containing natural gums alone (released more than 80% drug in 12 h). It can be concluded from results that eudragit l-100 has better release retardant effect as compared to the xanthan gum.
