The effects of Fe and Mn on microstructural and mechanical properties of modified Al-Si eutectic alloy

摘要
The effect of Fe and Mn in low concentrations on microstructural and tensile properties of Na-modified cast Al-Si alloy of eutectic composition has been studied. Microstructural examinations were performed by optical and scanning electron microscopy. It was established that the intermetallic compounds, which were developed in segregated part of melt during solidification, are of Al(Fe,Mn)Si type. These compounds have also significant influence on the modification level of eutectic silicon, refinement of aluminium dendrite and according to this, on the hardness and tensile properties of the examined AI-Si alloy.
